Entering Our 22nd Season!

The Parkville Symphonic Band is proud to announce our 22nd season of music making and participation in America’s passion for fine band music. Community bands have continued to enjoy popularity for well over a century, from a time before recorded music when bands were often valued as a primary source of music in local communities, to the present, where today’s bands provide an outlet for thousands of amateur musicians to enjoy, display and further hone their musical skills. While band music and ensembles were not an American invention, it was the outstanding bands of leaders like John Philip Sousa who took the military band and transformed it into the symphonic band, capable of performing serious music. In recent years, the popularity of community bands has grown in Europe and is now expanding into Asia. We are proud to be a part of this tradition, and we hope you will join with us as we celebrate our part in carrying on America’s musical heritage. If you play (or played) a band instrument, we invite you to join with us for our upcoming season. If you are more of a listener, we hope you will attend our concerts and discover the joy band music has to offer.

the band

Anyone who enjoys making music and who plays a band instrument is welcome to join (see the link on the right).

Currently the band is especially in need of one or more baritone players, and would also especially welcome additional performers on the following: oboe, bassoon, trombone and tuba.

We perform music ranging from show tunes and big band jazz to marches and major symphonic pieces. We work hard, but the mood is always light and friendly.

The band, now it it's 22nd season, performs four to six concerts each year, with two or more serving as fund raising events for various Northland charities. Park University provides our home base, with rehearsals and most concerts being held in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel. All Parkville Symphonic Band concerts are free and open to the public.
